The Long-form generator is a simple feature that is directly associated of the ability the UniSTEP toolbox has of working with modular standards. When that is the case, it is sometimes useful to get rid of the inter-references between files and threat the standard as a single model. This generator enables to create such a model and save it under EXPRESS format.
The funStep standard, ISO 10303-236, or AP236, is one example of a modular standard: It contains 239 different standard modules. This is a very useful characteristic of STEP, since enables reusability among different standard, i.e. one module could be used in different application protocols, but is not so good for implementors because they loose perspective of the full scope of the standard. Therefore, the long-form generator is frequently used when stakeholders want to move for the full implementation of a standard, or when standard developers are validating their work.
