funStep Data on the Web is the terminology for the reading of the Catalogue defined using funStep format upon the XML infrastructure-technology. Using the Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) it is possible to transform a funStep XML electronic catalogue to different end-documents.
Transformation techniques:
- XSL Transformations (XSLT): an XML language for transforming XML documents. Nowadays most of the web-browsers, like Internet Explorer, or Netscape, implement this technology, supporting transformations of XML to HTML through XSLT.
- XSL Formatting Objects (XSL-FO): an XML language for specifying the visual formatting of an XML document. Employing XSL-FO it is possible to translate from XML to PDF, PostSript, SVG, text files, etc...
Employing these transformation capabilities associated with the XML technology,
it is possible for all the involved enterprises to define a façade
for their own web page and have all their information constantly updated, as the information
showed on the web page is obtained directly from the catalogue the manufacturer defined in the
funStep file format.
